The number range for quotes
Prefix, year, sequential number: how quote numbers are created, where the scheme is configured — and which actions draw new numbers.
Every quote automatically receives its number, sequential and according to your scheme.
Configuring the scheme
The scheme sits under Settings → "Documents" (the page is headed "Document Settings") in the "Number Ranges" section. Three fields define it: the "Prefix" (up to 5 characters, default "AG"), the "Include year" toggle, and the "Next number". The "Preview" shows live what will be assigned: the running number padded to four digits, e.g. AG-2026-0001 (without the year, AG-0001). Since quotes are versioned, every number carries the version suffix from the start. So what you see is AG-2026-0001-v1.
If you're continuing a number series from a legacy system, simply set the "Next number" accordingly higher; the change takes effect from the next quote. The page is reserved for the Admin.
Which actions draw a new number?
- New quote draws the next number from the range.
- Duplicate also draws a new number, because an independent quote is created.
- Supplement gets its own new number, since it is a separate add-on quote.
- New version is the only exception. It keeps the base number and only increments the version suffix ("AG-2026-0042-v2"). This keeps the negotiation over a single deal under one number.
