For joineries
18 orders, 6 machines, 12 employees —
and everything at a glance.
In a joinery, dozens of tasks run in parallel every day: the CNC is milling, the paint room is drying, assembly is waiting on cutting. Gantway makes this flow visible — with utilization per station, status per order and a warning before it jams.

A typical joinery
12 people, 6 machines, 18 orders.
Can you still keep it in your head?
This is no longer a micro-business — this is a production operation. An Excel list from Monday is already out of date by Wednesday morning. Anyone still planning at this point on gut feeling and shouted instructions loses time every day that they don't have.
Das Problem
Five points where
joineries leave money on the table every day.
Monday 7:30 a.m.: journeyman sick, CNC order waiting.
Only Hans and Klaus can operate the 5-axis mill. Klaus is sick. Hans already has two tasks today. The order stands still for three hours because nobody saw beforehand how tight it would be — and because the plan nowhere records who is even allowed to run the CNC.
Which order goes to the CNC next? Nobody knows for sure.
Three orders are waiting for milling time. Setup time for the program change: 30 minutes. Which sequence saves time, which sequence holds the delivery date? That is decided by shouted instructions — and costs half an hour every day that stays invisible.
18 orders across 5 phases — and nobody has the overview.
Furniture orders, doors, built-in cabinets, interior fit-out. Some are in measuring, some in production, some waiting on material. Which one is behind? Which one needs a decision today? The Excel list doesn't answer that, because nobody keeps it up to date.
The paint room as an invisible bottleneck.
24 hours drying time for paint, 48 hours for hard oil — but none of that shows up in the weekly plan. Anyone painting on Friday afternoon blocks the booth until Tuesday. Whoever doesn't see that schedules four tasks on Monday that can't even start.
Post-costing: the margin is sensed, not measured.
The order is finished, the customer has paid. Was it profitable? How many hours really went into it, what did the material really cost, what was calculated? In most joineries this question goes unanswered — because the data for it doesn't come together anywhere.

Station utilization with traffic-light colors in Gantway
Digital desk: board, Gantt and utilization in one view.
The digital desk shows all orders on the board, all deadlines in the Gantt and the utilization of every station via traffic-light color — simultaneously, on one screen. CNC red, paint room yellow, assembly free: you see at a glance what is running today and where a bottleneck will emerge tomorrow. Drag & drop works on the tablet in the workshop too.
To the digital deskOverload badge on a station in the conflict engine
Conflict engine: double bookings and scheduling problems — detected automatically.
Gantway checks six conflict types: machine double booking, staff overload, dependency violation, missing qualification, vacation and material shortage. Every conflict is ranked by urgency (P0 to P2) — with a concrete proposed solution, not just a red marker.
To the conflict engineStaff pool for assigning by drag & drop
Qualification check: Gantway knows who is allowed to operate the CNC.
In the employee profile you record once which qualifications each person has — CNC operation, veneer sanding, welding, driver's license. As soon as you assign a task, Gantway automatically checks whether the qualification matches. If it's missing, there's a warning — before the journeyman is already standing at the machine.
To staff & qualificationsTasks with status badges inside an order
Order management: status, sequence and stale detection.
Every order runs through five statuses: Draft, Planned, Released, In Progress, Completed. Tasks within an order have finish-to-start dependencies — edge sanding only starts once the CNC run is finished. Orders that stay in one status longer than expected are automatically marked as "stale".

Pre- and post-costing: what was planned, what went in?
For every order, Gantway places labor, materials, machine and overhead side by side — planned and actual, color-coded, line by line. Margin not as a gut feeling, but as a number. The costing baseline can be frozen so renegotiations are cleanly documented.

Materials & procurement: what's missing is bundled automatically.
Gantway tracks the material requirement per task. Whatever isn't in stock lands automatically in the purchase requisition — aggregated across all active orders. One list, one export, one ordering process: veneer, fittings, edging, all together. No order waits because someone forgot to order.
To materials & procurementMachine sequence and station utilization
CNC, panel saw, paint room:
every station plans itself.
In a joinery, the work isn't the problem — it's the sequence. Which order goes to the CNC first? When is the paint room free again? Which station is the bottleneck today? Gantway maps every station as a standalone resource — with scheduling, utilization and traffic-light colors.

Utilization per station in real time
The digital desk shows a utilization bar with traffic-light colors for every station — CNC, panel saw, edge bander, paint room, assembly. Green means free capacity, yellow means caution, red means: a delivery delay is forming right here. You see it before it happens.
CNC setup times as their own time blocks
A program change on the 5-axis mill costs 20 to 45 minutes. In Gantway the setup process is its own time block in the schedule — visible, plannable, with a duration. When two orders are milled one after the other, the setup time decides which sequence is more favorable.
Paint room drying times block the booth
Drying time is booth time. In Gantway the paint room is a station like any other: with a booking calendar, waiting time as its own task and automatic rescheduling of all follow-up tasks. Anyone painting on Friday midday immediately sees in the plan when the booth is free again — and who can go in Monday morning.
Optimize station sequence by delivery date
Gantway shows all orders sorted by delivery date in the Gantt. Which order has to go to the saw first, so the CNC time is enough, so the drying time runs out, so the fitter arrives at the customer on time? This chain becomes visible — and can be adjusted by drag & drop when a rush order comes in between.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions. Answered briefly.
Which software is suitable for order planning in a joinery?
Gantway is web-based production planning for joineries: orders, workshop capacity, materials and working hours in one view. Board, Gantt and the utilization display replace the whiteboard and paper chaos — and the conflict engine reports when a shift would topple a delivery date.
The Digital Desk in detail What does planning software for joineries cost?
Gantway comes in three plans based on the number of active accounts — employees you only schedule cost nothing. You test it free for 14 days without a credit card, then pay monthly or annually.
See pricing Can Gantway replace our Excel planning?
Yes — that is exactly what it was built for. Instead of separate spreadsheets for orders, capacity and materials, you maintain one state the whole workshop works from. When a work step shifts, dependent dates recalculate automatically instead of a formula silently breaking somewhere.
How Gantway replaces Excel Can the workshop see whether material for an order has arrived?
Yes. Stock, requirements and purchase orders are linked to the tasks — every task shows by itself whether it may start. When a delivery of fittings or boards comes in, waiting tasks are released automatically.
Do we need our own IT or an installation for Gantway?
No. Gantway runs in the browser — on the office PC as well as on the tablet at the workbench. Data is stored on servers in Germany (GDPR-compliant, data processing agreement included) and can be exported as CSV at any time.
