Types for stations and slots

Which type to choose when creating an object, what it does in all plans and what it adds in the control room — with the complete type list and all values for the CSV column type_key.

When you create a slot or a station under Settings → "Master Data", you choose the "Type" first. The field is mandatory when creating, in every plan. Without a selection the form reports: "Please choose a type — if none fits, pick “Other …”."

Which tab for which type

The types are split across the two tabs and cannot be swapped between them:

  • "Slots": areas and workplaces.
  • "Stations": machines, plants with lead time and off-site types.

At the end, the selection list also shows the types of the other tab, greyed out and not selectable, with the note "Machines, plants and sites are created under “Stations”" or "Workplaces and areas are created under “Slots”". What fundamentally distinguishes a slot from a station is explained in Slot, station, qualification.

The classes

Plants with lead timeStations1hourly rate fields; run without a person (except "Vehicle lift")
Off-siteStations1cannot be placed in the control room

Every class except "Off-site" has a catch-all type "Other …" for anything that fits nowhere else.

What the type does in all plans

  • Icon: The type appears with an icon in the master data list ("Type" column), on the desk and in the station and slot selection fields on a position.
  • Capacity pre-filled: When creating, choosing a type sets the capacity to the class default, as long as you have not changed the field yourself. When editing, the capacity stays as it is.
  • Name example: The name field suggests an example that matches the type, for instance "e.g. Altendorf F45" for a saw.
  • Hourly rates: The station form only shows the machine hourly rate fields for machines, plants and stations without a type, and only to roles allowed to see prices (Rates and costs).
  • Scheduling: If a position at a plant with lead time stays without a person, the scheduling dialog does not raise the "position(s) without an assigned person" notice for it. A paint booth or a drying room simply runs without staff (Scheduling and assigning).

What also applies with the control room (Premium)

With the control room, the type determines the 3D model, the footprint in the floor plan and whether an object can be placed at all. Off-site types are never in the floor plan; their running work appears at the edge of the scene. The master data list then also has the "Control room" column: the hall name as a link, "Not placed" with the "Place in control room" button, or "Not placeable (off-site)".

If you change the type of a placed object, Gantway adjusts its footprint. If the object no longer fits at its previous position, Gantway moves it to storage; with an off-site type it is taken out of the floor plan. A notice reports this in each case (Placing objects).

All types and their CSV values

In the CSV import, the type_key column specifies the type. Exactly the following values are allowed, in lower case and without spaces. If the column is left empty, the object is created without a type. An unknown value or a type of the other tab makes the row invalid, for example: "type_key "cnc" ist kein gültiger Typ für Arbeitsplätze. Die gültigen Werte stehen in der Hilfe unter „Typen für Stationen und Arbeitsplätze“ — oder lassen Sie die Spalte leer." (The import reports this in German: "cnc" is not a valid type for slots; the valid values are listed in the help under "Types for stations and slots", which is this article, or leave the column empty.) The footprint only applies to the control room and is given in grid cells.

The import only creates new objects; existing ones with the same name are skipped. You change the type of an existing object in the edit dialog of the master data (Managing master data).
