Placing stations and workplaces: palette, storage, properties
How machines, workbenches and areas get into the hall, what storage is and why "Remove from layout" deletes nothing.
This feature is only included in the Premium plan. Compare plans
Every object on the floor plan is a real station or a real workplace from your master data. The control room determines where it stands in the hall. You place objects under "Edit", using the three lists in the sidebar on the left.
The three lists
- "Storage": existing stations and workplaces that are not placed in any hall yet. A click puts the object on the first free spot. Drag it by the handle on the left to the spot you want.
- "Palette": creates a new object in your master data. At the top are the types under "Typical for your trade", below them all others in the groups "Areas", "Workplaces", "Machines" and "Plants with lead time".
- "In other halls": objects that already stand elsewhere. The list is collapsed and is for reference only.
The search field "Search object or type…" filters all three lists.
Creating a new object from the palette
- Click a type in the palette, such as "Workbench" or "Saw". Or drag it onto the grid by its handle.
- In the dialog "Create Workbench" (or whichever type you chose), enter a "Name" of at least 2 characters. The placeholder shows an example.
- Check the capacity. For areas the field is called "Bays", for workplaces "Capacity (simultaneous orders)", for stations "Capacity (simultaneous items)". Allowed values are 1 to 1000.
- Click "Create". The object is now in your master data and on the grid: where you dropped it if you dragged it, otherwise on the first free spot.
Hourly rates for stations are maintained in the master data. Which type fits what is explained in Types for stations and workplaces.
Moving, rotating, resizing
- Move: drag the object. Green cells are free, red ones occupied. The arrow keys move it cell by cell.
- Rotate: "Rotate (R)" turns it in 90-degree steps, also while you drag an object from the sidebar.
- Size: only areas and objects without a type can be resized, with the handle at the bottom right or on the right via "Width", "Depth" and "Apply". All other types have a fixed footprint.
On the right under "Properties" you can also change the "Type". Change the name and capacity via "Open in master data". If the new type's footprint does not fit at the previous spot, the object moves to storage. With an off-site type such as "Field work / construction site", Gantway takes it off the floor plan, because such types do not stand in any hall.
"Remove from layout" deletes nothing
"Remove from layout (Del)" only removes the spot in the hall. The object then sits in storage and remains unchanged in your master data. Rooms, walls, labels, pillars and stairs, on the other hand, are really deleted with Del.
Moving an object to another hall
- Select the object in its current hall and click "Remove from layout (Del)".
- Switch to the other hall using the tabs.
- Place the object there from "Storage".
Objects in the trash
A deleted object keeps its spot and is locked. The panel on the right says: "This object is in the trash. It keeps its place and reappears here once restored." Only deleting it permanently frees the spot.
From the master data to the control room
In the master data (Settings → "Master Data", tabs "Slots" and "Stations"), the "Control room" column shows which hall an object stands in. A click on the hall name opens it there. For "Not placed", "Place in control room" takes you straight to the editor with the object in the search field. Objects you import via CSV also land in storage first.
