Restoring earlier versions of the floor plan
Every saved change is kept as a version. How to bring back an older floor plan without overwriting anything.
This feature is only included in the Premium plan. Compare plans
If you have messed up the floor plan or loaded a template over your hall, "Versions" brings the old state back. For the last few moves in the current session, Ctrl+Z is enough. For anything older, there are the versions.
When a version is created
Gantway saves the floor plan automatically, shortly after each change. Each of these saves creates a separate version. In addition, two special versions carry a note:
- When an industry template is loaded, for example "Vorlage Metallbau" (template plus industry).
- When a version is restored, for example "Wiederhergestellt aus Stand 12" (restored from version 12).
These notes are currently always in German.
How to restore a version
- Open the hall in the control room. The "Versions" button is in the toolbar in "Edit" and at the top right above the drawing area in "Floor plan".
- On the left you see the list of versions, the newest at the top marked "current". Each entry shows its number, date, time and "by" whom it was made.
- Click a version. A preview of the floor plan at that time appears on the right.
- Click "Restore this version".
Gantway reports "Version 12 restored" and reloads the hall.
Everyone who can see the control room may view the versions. The button "Restore this version" is only shown to roles that may edit the floor plan, by default admin and planner. It does not appear for the current version.
When not everything comes back
A lot may have changed since the old version. Gantway leaves out what no longer fits and lists it in the message after "Not restored:" with the reason:
| Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "object no longer exists" | The station or workplace has since been permanently deleted. |
| "stands in another hall" | The object stands elsewhere today. Gantway does not rearrange another hall. |
| "no longer placeable" | The object now has an off-site type. |
| "space occupied" | Something else stands at the old spot today. |
Objects left out end up in storage, provided they do not stand in another hall. From there you place them as described in Placing stations and workplaces.
Limits
- The list shows the newest 200 versions. Since every small change is a version, it does not reach back indefinitely if you work a lot on the floor plan.
- If you delete a hall, all its versions are deleted too. Versions cannot bring back a deleted floor plan.
- Restoring brings back the floor plan with its placements. Master data such as an object's name, type or capacity stays as it is today.
