An employee drops out — what to do now
A sick note at seven in the morning: record the absence, find the affected assignments, reassign — and what to do when nobody can step in.
The sick note arrives at seven, the week is already planned. Four steps, in this order — each with its own article behind it.
1. Record the absence
Open Absences in the sidebar and click "Record Absence" at the top right. Pick the person, choose "Sick Leave" as the "Absence Type", then enter "From" and "To".
This is not a request: for another person the entry is made directly, without an approval step, and the period may lie in the past — Monday's sick note arrives on Thursday. The full route is in Recording an absence for someone else.
What matters is what happens on saving: if the person is scheduled during that period, Gantway names the affected line items and closes with "Bitte umplanen oder umbesetzen." (please reschedule or reassign). The entry still goes through — but you now have your to-do list. Read it before you close the dialog.
2. See what is affected
From here the conflict engine works along: assignments on absence days appear in the sidebar under Conflicts as the conflict type "Employee absent"; the first dropdown above the list — it sits at "All" — hides everything else. What else shows up there is explained in Which conflicts does Gantway detect?, and the rules behind it in How absences affect planning.
3. Reassign
The direct route: sidebar Orders → open the order → tab "Tasks" → expand the work step → section "Assignments". Both routes — at the work step and by dragging from the team dock — are described in Assigning employees.
Who actually has room is shown by the team dock beneath the Gantt: sidebar Desk → "Project Overview". How to read the bars is in Team dock: reading utilization.
4. When nobody can step in
Then you do not reassign, you move deadlines. Gantway recalculates the dependent dates, but always shows the effect first in the dialog „Termine neu berechnen?“ (recalculate deadlines?) — see Recalculating deadlines. Work steps that are already running or finished stay where they are.
