Breaks and the Working Hours Act
Gantway does not deduct breaks automatically — it records them and checks the statutory rules. The five violation flags and what they mean.
The most important clarification first: Gantway does not deduct breaks automatically. Net working time is gross minus the actually recorded breaks — if you don't punch a break, you took none as far as the calculation goes.
Recording breaks
Breaks are actively started and ended at the time clock in the sidebar under "My Work" — by any role. A second break while one is running is caught by Gantway ("A break is already running."). The only automatism: a break still running at clock-out is ended automatically.
The check at clock-out
At clock-out, Gantway checks the day against the Working Hours Act. Anomalies appear as flags:
- "Break < 30 min (>6h)" — worked over 6 hours, but no 30-minute break (§ 4 ArbZG)
- "Break < 45 min (>9h)" — over 9 hours, no 45 minutes
- "Break block < 15 min" — breaks under 15 minutes do not count toward the mandatory break
- ">10h working time" — the daily maximum limit is exceeded
- "Rest period < 11h" — too little gap to the previous shift
In the sidebar under Time Tracking → "Overview" tab, the "Violations" toggle filters out exactly these days (working-hours overview).
