Night shift: working past midnight
Which day does the shift from 22:00 to 6:00 count toward? How the time clock handles midnight — and what the law says about night work.
Clocked in Monday at 22:00, clocked out Tuesday at 6:00. Which day does that count toward?
The rule: the clock-in day
The attendance entry belongs entirely to the calendar day of clocking in. So the example shift counts all eight hours toward Monday. The target/actual comparison and reports thus stay together per shift, instead of breaking apart artificially at midnight.
In practice, this means:
- The time clock in the sidebar under "My Work" simply keeps running past midnight. There is no automatic stop for attendance; the nightly auto-stop only affects the task timers.
- In the morning, you clock out as usual. Gantway finds the open shift from the previous day.
- A second clock-in while a shift is open is caught: "There is still an open shift. Please clock out first."
Night work and rest period
Gantway records the night working time (23:00–6:00, § 2 (3) ArbZG) to the minute on the entry, correctly even across the daylight-saving time change.
At the next clock-in, Gantway checks the rest period. If there are not 11 hours between clocking out and clocking in, a warning about the rest period appears. It warns but does not block.
