Creating your first customer
A last name is enough. Where you create customers, what the duplicate warning means — and why this step is sometimes done all by itself.
Orders and quotes are attached to a customer later on. That is why this step comes before your first order — and it takes less than a minute, because only one field is required.
By default, admin, planner and team lead may create customers.
How to create a customer
- Open Customers in the sidebar.
- Click "Create new customer".
- Enter the "Last Name". That is all Gantway asks for — company, address, contact details and contact person are optional and can be added at any time.
- Click "Save". Gantway confirms: "Customer created successfully." The customer then appears in the list.
If a similarly named entry already exists, Gantway warns with "A customer with a similar name already exists." This is meant to prevent duplicate records for the same business. Nothing is blocked: you can deliberately proceed.
