Creating articles: the article master data
The foundation of inventory: create articles with name, unit and article class — and why the SKU deserves careful thought.

Every stock begins with an article. It is created via the sidebar under Inventory on the "Articles" tab with the "Add article" button.
The fields
Only three entries are mandatory:
- Name (up to 200 characters)
- Unit — a selection of common units, default "pcs"; via "Other…" you can enter any custom unit (up to 20 characters, e.g. "lm")
- Article class — "Piece goods" (countable parts) or "Consumables" (glue, screws, varnish)
Optional: SKU/article number (up to 50 characters), manufacturer, supplier, order URL as well as purchase and sale price.
Who may maintain articles?
By default, Admin and Purchasing/Warehouse may create and edit articles. The Planner sees the article master data and may post stock — but may not create articles.
Deactivating articles
There is no delete button — articles are deactivated via the bin icon in their row of the article list: "Do you really want to deactivate this article? Historical line items are retained." So the movement history stays in place. Deactivation is blocked as long as the article is still part of an open procurement (a material line item with status "Zu bestellen" / "Bestellt" — to order / ordered) — first clear the open line items.
