Deactivating and reactivating a customer
Customers are not deleted but deactivated — the history stays. The two-step safeguard for open orders and the way back.
There is no delete button on a customer, and that is by design. Orders, quotes and documents hang off a customer. Instead, they are deactivated.
Deactivating
The "Deactivate" button sits in the customer file on the "Master Data" tab (sidebar → Customers → open the customer). After the confirmation ("Really deactivate this customer?"), the customer disappears from the selection lists for new orders and quotes; in the customer list they remain visible, marked as inactive. Their complete history is preserved; old orders and quotes still show them.
If the customer still has open orders, Gantway inserts a second step: the message states the count, and only "Deactivate anyway" carries it out. That way no one accidentally has the customer pulled out from under a running order.
If the customer's data has to disappear in response to an erasure request rather than merely becoming invisible, use the GDPR erasure — that step cannot be undone.
Only the admin may deactivate. Planners and team leads may edit customer data, but not deactivate.
Finding again and reactivating
Deactivated customers are not gone. The "Inactive" filter in the customer list (sidebar → Customers) shows them, and "Reactivate" on the "Master Data" tab is possible at any time. The customer is then immediately selectable again, with all their data and tags.
